Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 to benefit pupils who –

• are registered as eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) in Reception to Year 11
• are Looked After by the Local Authority (LAC)
• have left local authority care due to adoption
• have a special guardianship order
• are children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces
• in 2012 funding was extended to include pupils who have been eligible for free school meals within the last 6 years (Ever 6)

The Pupil Premium is paid by means of a specific grant based on one school year census figures.  For looked after children the Pupil Premium is calculated using the Children Looked After data returns (SSDA903).   The service premium is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of those pupils.

The Pupil Premium is additional to main school funding and must be used by schools to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible by ensuring that funding reaches those pupils who need it most. The funding is allocated to schools for the purpose of boosting the attainment of those pupils. It enables targeted support to be provided thus helping pupils to reach their full potential.
