The Life of St Stephen

St Stephen was one of the first deacons in the early Church, chosen to help care for the poor and ensure that everyone in the community was treated fairly. He was a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit who bravely shared the Good News of Jesus.

Stephen was arrested because of his beliefs and refused to stop speaking about Jesus. He became the first Christian martyr when he was stoned to death for his faith. Even as he was dying, Stephen showed the love and forgiveness of Jesus by praying for those who were hurting him.

St Stephen is remembered as a saint because of his great faith, courage, service and willingness to follow Jesus, even when it cost him his life. We celebrate the Feast of St Stephen on 26 December, the day after Christmas.

We celebrate the Feast of St Stephen on our return to school after the Christmas holidays. After lunch, we hold a special assembly for the whole school based on St Stephen and then we branch off into our house teams to spend the remainder of the afternoon celebrating the life of St Stephen and reflecting on his personal qualities and the key messages we can take from his life and actions.
